I’d like to start this post with a shout-out to Jimmy Atkinson from Dividend Reference, who recently published an awesome post compiling 101 dividend-investing tips from various individuals in the DGI blogosphere. What a great idea! I was fortunate enough to be one of the individuals Jimmy reached out to, and it is an absolute honor to be featured in the article. You’ll definitely want to go check it out.
Thanks again Jimmy!
Now, onto the topic of the day. Yet another month has passed by, and you know what that means! It’s time
to eat cupcakes for my favorite type of post: dividend logs! I love these posts because they embody the tangible power of dividend growth investing, which lies in the ever-flowing stream of passive income that my portfolio generates on a monthly basis. I started investing in late December 2014, and I received my first dividends in February 2015, when I earned $6.26. This is effectively the ninth month I’ve ever received dividends in my life, so let’s take a look at who paid me what!
|Bank Of Nova Scotia||$7.46|
|BreitBurn Energy Partners||$4.17|
|Starwood Property Trust||$33.60|
So I earned close to $50 in passive income during the month of October. This is a bit underwhelming compared to last month’s earnings of over $100. However, like I’ve said many times before, most of my portfolio’s dividend pay dates are currently concentrated around the months of March/June/September/December. As such, it is better to compare a given month with the corresponding month of the previous quarter, which, in this case, would be July. My July earnings clocked in at $38.16, which means that, given this month’s payout, I am seeing a quarter-over-quarter increase of 18.5%. Not too shabby, eh?
Starwood Property Trust did most of the heavy lifting here. This is one of my absolute favorite REITs (and companies in general), which I initiated a position in back in June, and which I again purchased in September. And at current prices, I’m really tempted to go for a triple-dip in the near future.
Anyway, that’s all I got for you guys today. Overall I’m very pleased with the progress I’m making, and October certainly didn’t disappoint.
How was your month of October, my fellow reader? Let me know in the comments!
