Well, another month has passed by, which means that it’s time for my favorite type of post: dividend recaps! I love these posts because they embody the tangible power of dividend growth investing, which lies in the ever-flowing stream of passive income that my portfolio generates on a monthly basis. I started investing in late December 2014, and I received my first dividends in February 2015, where I earned $6.26. This is effectively the sixth month I’ve ever received dividends in my life, so let’s take a look at who paid me what, and how my earnings stack up compared to last month.
|Bank Of Nova Scotia||$6.27|
|BreitBurn Energy Partners||$4.17|
|Starwood Property Trust||$21.12|
Almost $40 in passive income for July. This is underwhelming compared to last month’s earnings of over $80, but as I’ve said it before, most of my portfolio’s dividend pay dates are currently concentrated around the months of March/June/September/December. As such, it is better to compare a given month’s earnings with those of the corresponding previous quarter, which, in this case, would be April. In this context, my July earnings are fantastic, having more than doubled as compared to the dividends I earned 3 months ago, which were just north of $17.
The lion’s share of the earnings this month came from Starwood Property Trust, an REIT in which I initiated a position back in June. Disney’s recent change to a biannual dividend was also a welcome addition for July, giving my passive income a nice little boost.
According to my portfolio, my projected total annual income now sits just shy of $800, an increase of $100 over where it stood at the beginning of the month of July. This comes out to an average of $66/month, so I am making steady progress toward my first big milestone goal of an average of $100/month, which I’m hoping to achieve by the end of 2016.
Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for today. Onward to August!
What about you, my esteemed reader? How was your month of July, both dividend-wise and otherwise? Let me know in the comments!
