With April officially behind us, it’s time for another dividend recap! These are my favorite posts because they embody the tangible power of dividend growth investing, which lies in the ever-flowing stream of passive income that my portfolio generates on a monthly basis. I started investing in late December 2014, but I didn’t receive my first dividends until February 2015, when I earned $6.26. This is effectively the third month I’ve ever received dividends in my life, so let’s take a look at who paid me what, and how my earnings stack up compared to last month.
|Bank Of Nova Scotia||$6.71|
|BreitBurn Energy Partners||$4.17|
|Omega Healthcare Investors||$1.80|
My third month of dividends, ever, and I receive almost 20 bucks…not bad! This is quite a bit lower than last month’s whopping $51.29, but it is nothing to be worried about; it just so happens that most of my current holdings pay on the same quarterly schedule of March/June/September/December, which means that my payouts will be concentrated around those months instead of being evenly distributed throughout the year. Nonetheless, April’s payout comes out to a nearly 280% increase over February’s earnings of $6.26, which is still awesome progress.
Interestingly, Bank Of Nova Scotia provided the bulk of my earnings this period. This was a company I initiated a position in late in March, so I’m very happy that I managed to snag that delicious dividend before the ex-date! Even after the 15% Canadian withholding tax, the earnings of $6.71 were almost 40% higher than the payout from my second-highest earner, General Electric. Speaking of which, this marks both the first and last time I’ll be receiving dividends from the giant conglomerate, since I recently sold my shares after the news of the dividend freeze. RIP in peace GE, it’s been a fun but short ride for us 😥
Anyway, that pretty much sums up April. It was a solid month, and I am as motivated as ever to keep raking in those sweet, sweet dividends. Onward to May!
What about you, my esteemed reader? How was your month of April? Did you collect some nice dividends? Did you eat a lot of chocolate chip cookies?
