Hi there! I’m Alex. I have an awesome cat named Maxwell, I’m 25 years old, and, uh…well, since you found your way to my ‘about’ page, I can only assume that you are interested in getting to know me beyond the little blurb I have in the sidebar to the right over there. Aw shucks, I’m flattered. *blushes*
Ok, with that cute little intro out of the way, let’s get down to business.
I was born and raised in New York, in the outer suburbs of NYC. I am fully bilingual in French and English, as my mother is French and I attended a French-American institution from pre-K through the end of high school. At the tender age of 18, I migrated to Upstate New York to pursue my undergraduate education at Cornell University in the beautiful city of Ithaca, where I majored in information science and minored in game design. After graduating in May 2013, I moved halfway across the country and relocated to Boise, Idaho, where I began working as a web developer for Bodybuilding.com.
I am a huge geek at heart. I love video games, comics, fantasy, and science fiction. I am fascinated by mathematics, astronomy, science, and technology. I enjoy solving math problems, writing code, and designing sexy webpages. I’m also a serial over-thinker, and as such spend a lot of time philosophizing about (often useless) things.
Nerdy things aside, I have an ineffable passion for health and fitness, which is why I specifically wanted to work for Bodybuilding.com after I graduated. I feel very blessed to have landed a job there, as it is an incredible company to work for if you are into health and fitness. The culture here is wonderful and encouraging, and my coworkers are some of the most awesome people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I can honestly say that I look forward to heading to the office every morning when I wake up, and I can undoubtedly see myself working here until the day I retire (early of course 😉 )
Obviously, the world of personal finance and investing is also of huge interest to me. That’s what this blog is all about after all! You see, financial independence is something I have dreamed about ever since I was a teenager. The idea that I could live my life without ever having to worry about money just seemed like the best thing ever! And so, shortly after I moved to Idaho and settled down into my new adult life, I decided to start seriously investigating how I could remove money from the equation. My research quickly led me to the world of investing, and specifically dividend investing, when I stumbled upon Lowell Miller’s book The Single Best Investment. It had good reviews on amazon and I was thirsty for knowledge, so I purchased the kindle version on a whim. I ended up staying glued to my iPad and devoured it in one weekend. This book honestly changed my life.
I was completely sold on the concept of dividend investing, so I decided to dive in and start paving the path toward the financial independence I had always dreamed of. I bought my first stock in December 2014 (Intel ftw!), and, in March 2015, after having discovered the wonderful online community of dividend investors, I decided to start my own blog as a way of keeping myself accountable and journaling my progress.
During the summer of 2015 I also started developing an interest in Forex swing trading, and I began trading real money shortly after, in October of that same year. I have been posting weekly public logs of all my trading activity ever since I started, again as a way of journaling my progress and sharing this part of my journey to financial freedom with anyone who might care to follow along.
And so this is exactly what you can expect from Zero to Zeros. I will be completely transparent about my finances, both in an effort to help me organize and keep track of my investments and as a way of potentially helping and inspiring others who, like me, dream of someday breaking free from the chains of monetary woes.
I am starting from zero, but I intend to finish with many zeros. And I hope you will too!
Thanks again for stopping by. Your readership is sincerely appreciated!
